This is the best screen shot I have of the ribbon on Columbia's top hat. It's probably just a strip of black taffeta, but I think grosgrain ribbon looks just as nice. I think the texture of the sequin fabric beneath the ribbon makes it look a little bumpy. You can see the bow on the side of the hat, and it looks smooth.
I'm still undecided about the strap on the bow tie - it's either scrunched up satin or black sequins. Both look good, in my opinion.
